Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the LORD.

Jeremiah 9:23-24

There are two kinds of people: Those who feel wise, mighty and rich and those who don’t.

For those who do feel those positive things, this is humbling. Because if we feel wise and powerful, we want to boast about it. But those with more wisdom can see that our wealth and power are nothing compared to God. We should be boasting about God.

For those who don’t feel wise and powerful, this passage can be encouraging. Because the poorest and least powerful human can seek to know God, and boast in Him.

And we move towards wisdom if we move towards the traits that God says He delights in: steadfast love, justice, and righteousness.

So move towards those things and boast in who God is.
