5-1 Application for Jan 12, 2020 :: Daniel 2:20-21

===

Blessed be the name of God forever and ever,
to whom belong wisdom and might.
He changes times and seasons;
he removes kings and sets up kings;
He gives wisdom to the wise
and knowledge to those who have understanding.

Daniel 2:20-21

===

Here’s a good foundation to start the year – a listing of some of God’s amazing qualities.

He is strong (might belongs to Him)
He is sovereign (He changes times and sets up kings)
He is wise and is generous with his wisdom (he gives wisdom and knowledge)

This is the kind of God we should worship. And yes, this is the kind of God we should want to be blessed.

4-52 Application for Jan 5, 2020 :: John 11:25-26

===

“I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die.

Do you believe this?”

John 11:25-26

===

What an important passage. It’s a pretty good way to end 2014.

The unspoken question is “Do you want to avoid death?” The answer, for most of us, is Yes. And Jesus is the way to do that. Specifically, we need belief in him. Deep, complete, life-changing belief in him.

Because he is the resurrection.

“Do you believe this?” is an important question.

So I hope as we finish up this year, that your answer to Jesus’ question is “Yes, I believe this.” And may it be a saving belief for you and others in your life in 2015.

4-51 Application for Dec 29, 2019 :: 1 Corinthians 15:58

===

Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

1 Corinthians 15:58

===
What can motivate you to do hard work when it is sometimes unpleasant, or dangerous, or painful?
Here is one thing: the certainty that good will happen as a result of your work. And here we have the Apostle Paul telling us that we can have this certainty.

Does this give you the encouragement to do the Lord’s work with steadfastness? Does this make you want to abound in what he wants you to do?

Be immovable in this good work!

4-50 Application for Dec 22, 2019 :: Hebrews 3:12-13

===

Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.

Hebrews 3:12-13

===
In this verse, we are explicitly warned about two dangers in any Christian community – two bad things that can happen: That we might be lead away, falling from the living God and that we might become hardened by sin.

That this is a potential reality is the bad news. The good news is the writer of Hebrews has steps we can take to prevent it.

(1) We should take steps to make sure our leaders are real believers in our Father and His will. We should be led by people who want us to move towards God.

(2) We should each (not just the leaders) exhort each other, question each other, challenge each other in God’s Truth. And not once a year, or once every few months, but every day.

Have you done this with someone today?

4-49 Application for Dec 15, 2014 :: Proverbs 16:32

===

Whoever is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.

Proverbs 16:32

===
First, consider the God of the Universe – the one who created everything – the all powerful and all wise Being. Do you want to be the kind of person who He calls ‘better’? You should. And that is the motivator in this verse.

“Better than what or who?” you might ask. Better than the mighty or “He who takes a city”

If so, if you want God to call you better, then choose the wise path: being slow to anger and controlling over your own spirit.

In other words, by God’s grace, don’t be quick to lose control of your temper, or your emotions. Keep yourself in check. Because we have it on good authority, this will be better long-term than being a person who rules over many people.

4-48 Application for Dec 8, 2014 :: Psalm 118:13-14

4-48 Application for Dec 8, 2014 :: Psalm 118:13-14

===

I was pushed hard, so that I was falling, but the LORD helped me. The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.

Psalm 118:13-14

===

This is the helpful truth for those that are falling. They’ve been pushed hard enough that they can’t keep standing on their own. And what does He do? What does He become for those who put their faith in Him?

Three things:

1. Your Strength – to enable you to keep from falling. This would be acceptable for many who are in a difficult place – but God doesn’t stop there.
2. Your Song – so you’re not just standing upright – you’re given the joy to want to sing about it.
3. Your Salvation – This is long term uprightness – eternal protection from falling.

Are you falling? Run to this God.

4-47 Application for Dec 1, 2019 :: John 15:7

===

If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

John 15:7

===

“Awesome,” we think, “I can get anything I want by doing this one thing!”.

No. Rather, think of it this way – If you are a person who stays with Jesus, and follows Jesus, and knows his will and his words and wants to serve him, then you will be the kind of person who’s will is so close to God’s that what you wish will be His will.

And wouldn’t that be a much more substantial blessing than getting three wishes?

4-46 Application for Nov 15-16, 2014 :: Psalm 119:14-16

4-46 Application for Nov 24, 2019 :: Psalm 119:14-16

===

In the way of your testimonies I delight as much as in all riches. I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways. I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word.

Psalm 119:14-16

===
Money is not as good as God. God is the source of all wisdom and joy and salvation.

So delight, fix your eyes, meditate and don’t forget His …

precepts, ways, statutes, testimonies and word.

They are better, stronger and more valuable than riches.

4-45 Application for Nov 17, 2014 :: James 4:7-8

===

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.

James 4:7-8

===

Three Commands –
1. Submit yourself to God
2. Resist the devil
3. Draw near to God

Two Promises –
1. The devil will flee from you.
2. God will draw near to you.

Do you want the promises? Wouldn’t it be nice if the devil withdrew from you today? Do you want God to draw near to you?

So: What do you need to do to resist the devil? What do you have to shut off or run from. What do you need to say ‘no’ to?

And what do you need to do to submit to God and draw near to him. What do you need to say ‘Yes’ to?

Do those things. Pray for the grace to do those things.

4-44 Application for Nov 10, 2019 :: Psalm 127:1

===

Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.

Psalm 127:1

===

God can succeed without you, but you can’t succeed without God.

As you make goals, are you asking God to make them happen? Are you aware of his working through all of it? Are you thankful to him when things get done?

Are you open to the idea that everything that ever happens is miraculous?
