Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.

There is a good chance you have a burden today. For some of us, this burden is very deep and difficult to bear.

Notice that this Psalm doesn’t say, cast your easy burdens on the LORD.

If you are righteous in God’s site, because of the work of his Son, it doesn’t matter the size of your burden.

Give it to God and he was sustain you.

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit

Here, again, is the gospel.
We were unrighteous – Christ is righteous.

4-41 Application for Oct 20, 2019 :: 1 Corinthians 15:1-3

==

Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you-unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures

1 Corinthians 15:1-3

===

What is the important message that Paul stresses so strongly here?
Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures.

Hold fast to this truth as if your life depends on it – because it does.
We received this.
We stand in this.
We are saved by this.
It is of first importance.

4-39 Application for Oct 6, 2019 :: Jeremiah 9:23-24

==

“Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the LORD.”

Jeremiah 9:23-24

===

In our natural humanity – it sure seems like our wisdom, might and wealth is something we should boast about.

But these are all gifts.

So the Prophet says we should be boasting about the gift-giver.

And what about Him should we extol?
His love
His Justice
His Righteousness.

That’s what should give us joy. That’s what should get our mouths talking.

4-38 Application for Sept 29, 2019 :: Proverbs 26:20

==

For lack of wood the fire goes out, and where there is no whisperer, quarreling ceases.

Proverbs 26:20

===

What does the proverbs writer mean by ‘whisper?’

I think he means gossip. I think he means complainer.
Do you want the quarrel to stop? Move away from the negative and the secret.
Those things are the fuel for the fight

4-36 Application for Sept 15, 2019 :: James 1:22-24

==

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like.

James 1:22-24

===

Reading the Bible is fairly easy. Having an understanding of what is sin is pretty straightforward.

Obedience is not. Pray that God will work in you the ability to see what he says in his word and then go live it out.

4-34 Application for Sept 1, 2019 :: Psalm 27:4-5

==

One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple. For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock.

Psalm 27:4-5

===

The most important thing to this psalm writer is this – he wants to be with God. Forever.

He knows that if he’s with God, he’ll be able to …
– see God’s beauty
– learn about him
– be protected by him and
– be lifted up by him

We should all want all of these things. Seek after God.
