Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.

Isaiah 40:28-29

The answer is yes. You have known and you have heard that the LORD is the everlasting God.

Here’s what else you’ve heard:
He created you and all things.
He never tires
He knows everything.
He can give you strength when you feel weak.

Ask him for strength.

1-15 Application for May 23, 2021 :: Ephesians 4:26

Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger.

===

Ephesians 4:26

Two things to point out with this verse
(1) Apparently, not all anger is sin.
(2) One way to be sinfully angry is to keep it.

God doesn’t want you harbor your sin for even twentyfour hours. So to keep it in your heart for months or years is destructive and goes against his will.

For good reason – long term anger will hurt you and your relationships.

What are you angry about right now? Should you talk to someone about it? Should you let it go?

Don’t let another night go by with this anger.

Rom 8

===

If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

Colossians 3:1-3

Once again, it’s not “If you want to be raised with Christ, seek the things that are above”.

It’s not seek His things and then he will raise you.
Rather, it’s – Christ has raised you, now seek the things that are above, where He is.

You have died to your old life and now your new life is hidden with Christ, so don’t seek the lower things. Seek the upper, higher things.

1-14 Application for May 8, 2021 :: Psalm 1:5-6

===

Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; for the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

Psalm 1:5-6

God knows. If you are with him, if you are in his salvation, he knows your way.

And unlike the wicked, you will stand in the judgment and you will stand in the congregation of the righteous.

You will not perish. Thank God.

1-12 Application for May 1, 2021 :: Psalm 1:3-4

===

He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away.

Psalm 1:3-4

It’s an inspiring image – a tree planted by streams of water. There can be months of no rain, but because of the stream, the tree keeps yielding fruit – fruit that helps others and points people to the creator.

The wicked are different. They become dry and inconsequential and they go where the wind drives them.

Our God is your stream. His Gospel is your stream. Stay by him and produce fruit.

1-12 Application for Apr 24, 2021 :: Psalm 1:1-2

===

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.

Psalm 1:1-2

Could we try saying this verse negatively?

A man who takes joy in being with wicked people, or sinful people, or scoffing people are in trouble. A man who does not delight in the law of the LORD is cursed.

Do you want to be blessed?

1-12 Application for Apr 17, 2021 :: James 1:4-5

===

And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

James 1:4-5

You, Christian, are moving towards perfection. God is working steadfastness in you to complete you and give you everything you need.

Even wisdom. We all want more wisdom. There are too many times when we don’t know what to do. Here is a promise – Ask God. He will give wisdom to you generously.

1-12 Application for Apr 10, 2021 :: James 1:2-3

===

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.

James 1:2-3

This is a truth that is present in many places in the Bible, and it’s an idea we’re not really fond of.

First it says “when”, not “if” You will meet trials – of more than one kind. And when you do, your response should not be to complain, or shake your fist, or say it’s unjust, but to count it as joy.

But there is good news. There is a positive result – when your faith is tested, and you trust God to supply your needs or get you through it, there will be more steadfastness in your life.

And then you should thank God. And rejoice.

1-12 Application for Apr 3, 2021 :: Phil 2:12-13

===

Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

Philippians 2:12-13

===

Here is a very rich verse which is very thick in what it can teach us. But there is something very interesting to note:

1. We work out our own salvation.
2. It is God who works in us, both to will (decide) and to work (do).

And he does it for his good pleasure.

It will be so much better for you if your will aligns with God’s.

So obey God.

1-12 Application for Mar 27, 2021 :: Phil 2:10-11

===

… so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Philippians 2:10-11

===

This is why God has highly exalted Jesus and bestowed on him the name that is above every name: Worship. We should all bow and worship this Son of God who took on human form. We should all declare that our Lord is Jesus.

Make sure you confess that today. So that Father and Son are glorified.

Performed and written by Scott Jamison and his kids.
