For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.

Psalm 139:13-14

===

Here’s one good reason for you to praise God:
You are fearfully and wonderfully made. And deep in your heart you know it and feel it.

God made you – he chose that you would exist – and you have the physical body that he built to be you.

Praise him for this.

Psalm 139:1-3

==

If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,” even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you.

Psalm 139:11-12

===

We do not have a God who is blind. The saviour of our souls is not fooled, or ignorant, or mystified or tricked.

Our God sees and knows all. Trust His guidance.

==

If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.

Psalm 139:9-10

===

There are times for all of us when we feel like we are flying and on top of things.

There are times for all of us when we feel like we are being crushed by the weight of the ocean.

In both cases (and those time in between) we are being led by the loving hand of our heavenly father.

And we are being held by him.

4-20 Application for May 19, 2019 :: Psalm 139:6-8

==

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high; I cannot attain it. Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!

Psalm 139:6-8

===

God is everywhere. God knows everything.

For the sinner, that is bad news.
For those in Jesus – who want God’s presence and protection – it is wonderful knowledge.

4-18 Application for May 12, 2019 :: Psalm 139:1-3

==

O LORD, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways.

Psalm 139:1-3

===

We have a God who understands each of us and isn’t surprised by anything that happens to us.
He knows what we are thinking and where we are going.

This could be a frightening thought, if he weren’t a loving God, but we’ll need to wait just a few verses to learn about that.

In the meantime, know this: You are known by God.

Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.

Romans 5:9-10

At the point that we were enemies – then we were reconciled – justified
By the death of Jesus his son.
By his blood
Now we are reconciled – we will be saved
By the life of Jesus his son.
From the wrath of God

but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:8

===

We were not good people when Christ reached down to save us. We were not decent. We were not holy or righteous or perfect or blameless.

We were sinners.

But Christ still died for us.

That’s one way we know that God loves us. Feel his love throught that act.

4-13 Application for April 7, 2019 :: Ephesians 2:4-5

==

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ-by grace you have been saved

Ephesians 2:4-5

===

Here is really good news.

And it’s another reminder of a part in the Gospel.

It was God
(and his Son)
who’s love and mercy and grace
(while we were dead)
Made us alive and saved us

We should remember how little we did to make ourselves right with this loving God.
