4-12 Application for Mar 31, 2019 :: Ephesians 2:1-3

==

And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience- among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.

Ephesians 2:1-3

===

This is a dark verse

Dead
Tresspasses and sins
Following the wrong prince
Passions of our flesh
Children of Wrath

So why is it a happy verse for Christians?

Because of one word: “were”

None of these things are true any more.

We are following God.
We are alive.
We are sons of obedience
We are children of God.

Thank God for this.

Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth! Serve the LORD with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! Know that the LORD, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Psalm 100:1-3

===

We, as Christians, often don’t like noise. But what we have hear is joyful noise. Singing praise.

And why?

4-9 Application for Mar 10, 2019 :: Acts 5:29

==

“We must obey God rather than men.”

Acts 5:29

===

There is quite a lot in the Word of God about how we should respect and obey human authorities (Parents, Elders, Bosses, Kings) that God has put in our lives. But here is at least one exception – if obeying these human agents would go against obeying God, then we must not do it.

Happily, this is fairly rare.

But our obedience to God is paramount.

4-8 Application for Mar 3, 2019 :: John 10:27-30

==

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”

John 10:27-30

===

This is what Jesus said – Jesus, the Son of God: No one can take you out of my hand.

If you are in Jesus, you are with Him forever. Isn’t that comforting?
The one who is one with the Father will protect you always.

Listen to His voice. Follow Him.

4-7 Application for Feb 24, 2019 :: Proverbs 3:11-12

==

My son, do not despise the LORD’s discipline or be weary of his reproof, for the LORD reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights.

Proverbs 3:11-12

===

If God didn’t love you, he wouldn’t care if you were on the right track.

He wouldn’t care if your choices were moving yourself further and further from Him.

So he brings things into your life, sometimes very hard things, to pull you back towards him.

This is one way we know He loves us.

Respond to that love.

4-6 Application for Feb 17, 2019 :: Proverbs 3:9-10

Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the first fruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.

Proverbs 3:9-10

===

God promises to bless you if you honor the Lord with your wealth.

One way to do that is to pray to him these questions:
How would you like to spend my money?
And …
How would you like to invest in the Gospel?

John 14:6

give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies, but test everything; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil.

1 Thessalonians 5:18-22

===

Which of these areas do you have the greatest sanctification opportunities – where you could grow the most?

  • Being open to Prophecies (while testing everything and holding fast to what is good)
  • Giving thanks in hard times.
  • Abstaining from evil.

Pray about it – think about it – trust God with it.

1 Thessalonians 5:14-17

And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all. See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing

1 Thessalonians 5:14-17

===

This passage has some useful ideas about how to deal with different kinds of people.

Idle : Admonish
Fainthearted : Encourage
Weak : Help
Everyone : Be patient
Noone : Repay evil for evil
Everyone : Seek to good
Always : Rejoice
All the time : Pray

Are there areas here that you should work on and pray for sanctification for?

I don’t know if this verse is sum-up-able. Jesus was a clear as he could be.

There are are no other options. There are no other routes.
