3-39 Application for Oct 1 :: I Corinthians 13:4-7

I Corinthians 13:4-7

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

===

What is Love?

Obviously there is so much meaning in that word that it’s impossible to fully define. But that doesn’t stop Paul from trying.

And it’s a very helpful description – with lots of room for application. Can you apply these words to how your treat your spouse, or your kids, or coworker, or fellow church goers, or … your enemy?

Sung by Daniel Sousa, Song by Scott Jamison

3 – 38 Application for Sept 24 :: Matthew 5:11-12

Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Matthew 5:11-12

===

Are you experiencing what the true prophets experienced? What the apostles experienced?

Are you suffering because of your relationship with Jesus?
If so, it’s hard, but there is benefit: Your heavenly reward will be great.
And there is good news – you are in good company.

3 – 37 Application for Sept 17, 2023 :: Matthew 5:7-10

===

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 5:7-10

===

Jesus is telling us what kind of people we should be.
Jesus, the Son of God and Saviour of the World, is showing us what our mindset should be and how we should think.

We should listen to His words, right? He knows. He is trustworthy.

So what kinds of people should we be?
Merciful
Pure in Heart,
Peacemakers,
Willing to be persecuted for being righteous.

And what does Jesus say will be our blessings if we do?
We will receive mercy, and see God and be called sons of God and obtain the kingdomw of heaven.

Very good motivators – very good reward.

Are you moving in these directions?

3 – 36 Application for Sept 10 :: Matthew 5:3-6

===

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. 5Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. 6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

Matthew 5:3-6

===

These are striking words and not how humanity usually thinks.

No, we think, people who are poor in spirit, or who are mourning are not blessed.
and it’s the aggressive and evil who get their way in this world.

But Jesus, our savior and our God says differently. He says that God is more in touch with those who are poor in spirit and those who are mourning. And he wants his children to be meek and to seek after righteousness. He promises good thing for those who point this way.

So allow God and His Son’s words to point you this way.

3-34 Application for August 27, 2023 :: Psalm 30:4-5

3-34 Application for September 1-2, 2018 :: Psalm 30:4-5

===

Sing praises to the LORD, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name. For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.

Psalm 30:4-5

===

We should sing praises.
We should give thanks.

To who? The Holy God
When? When we are weeping and when we are experiencing joy?
Why? For his saints, his anger is short. But his favor is forever.

Joy comes in the morning!

Psalm 30:4-5

===

Proverbs 22: 1

A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.

===

How can I comment on this one? It’s so simple and straightforward. Value you reputation more than you value stuff – even valuable stuff.

I’ll point out that this is one of the rare verses that suggests you should care about what people think of you.

But of course, what is most important is what God thinks of you. Do you care about that? Do you act like you care about that?

===

‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,’ declares the LORD…

Jeremiah 29:11-14

===

For the Nation of Israel (both old and new) the end will be good. That is our future and hope.

We will find God (the one who created all things and is in all and through all) when we seek him.
And he has plans for the good that will happen to us as a result.

Seek him.

Jeremiah 29:11-14

===

For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

Philippians 1:21

===

There is good and there is good.

For the Christian, it’s win/win.

While we are alive, we work to live as Christ would want to. For as long as we live. And we receive many blessings because of it.

But death is not the end, and it’s not horrifying and it’s not dismal, because we’ll gain by being with God in a much more full way when he takes us home.

Because of what Jesus has done for us, we can’t lose.

3-30 Application for July 30, 2023 :: Isaiah 46:3-4

===

“Listen to me, O house of Jacob, all the remnant of the house of Israel, who have been borne by me from before your birth, carried from the womb; even to your old age I am he, and to gray hairs I will carry you. I have made, and I will bear; I will carry and will save.”

Isaiah 46:3-4

===

From birth to death – that’s the whole life of a saved person (those of the new house of Israel).

The God of Israel has
borne you,
carried you,
saved you.

That’s a lot. We should be grateful.
We should listen to Him.

3-29 Application for July 28-29, 2018 :: Psalm 42:11

===

Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.

Psalm 42:11

===

Can you identify with this? The psalmist is talking to his own soul and wondering why it doesn’t have peace. We’ve been there. But then the psalmist has a good remedy; good advice.

Hope in God – he is your salvation.
Praise him, he is your God.
