Set 1 – Romans 12:1-2 – I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Jesus Christ died upon the cross as the perfect sacrifice. Because of His sacrifice, we can take up our cross each day dying to self and be conformed to His likeness. Metamorphosis is the idea here. It is not just taking bits here and there into our minds to gradually change, but rather a complete transformation. The thrust of this transformation is to conform to Christ, not the world. God has given believers a new mind so that one may understand what is good and acceptable and perfect.
How are you conforming to this world?
Practical suggestions this week:
– Meditate upon this verse and Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. What is good? Acceptable? Perfect? Conform to Christ.
– Offer yourself to the Lord and pray for renewal of your mind. Pray through what it means to have new life given by God and gain the mind of Christ. (See an example here)
– As you look at your own life, pray for discernment to know what is the will of God in Christ Jesus. What is good and acceptable and perfect?
How will you use this free bible song in your life this week? with your spouse? your children? your family? your neighbors?
