5-34 Application for Aug 29-30, 2015 :: Colossians 4:6

===

Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.

Colossians 4:6

===

People who teach about the best way to understand what the Bible is saying in a given passage agree that you should pay attention to the reasoning. In this verse, I wonder about the phrase “so that”. Something about the first part of the verse makes the second part possible.

So you could read the sentence this way: You will be aided in your understanding of the best way to respond to someone (maybe someone who makes Godly responses challenging) if you think about how you can answer with grace and if you think about how you can make your words more palatable to the other person.

May all Christians talk like this.
