1-48 Application for Dec 26, 2021 :: Psalm 23:3-4

===

He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Psalm 23:3-4

If you are a child of God, He is with you. So you don’t have to fear the days ahead, even if things are very dark. He will lead you with his strength and righteousness.

And his leadership will show you how to act more according to his will.

Your tendency used to be to run from God and his will, but he has changed you. Thank God.

1-48 Application for Dec 19, 2021 :: Psalm 23:1-2

===

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.

Psalm 23:1-2

We need a shepherd. Without a shepherd, we would be wild animals, lost and homeless.

Our shepherd is Almighty God.

We need rest. He knows we need it. He makes a place for us to rest and gives us reason to be calm.

1-47 Application for Dec 11, 2021 :: 1 John 1:8-9

===

If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1 John 1:8-9

You are a sinner. You have sinned. You shouldn’t think you haven’t. You shouldn’t tell others you haven’t. It is deceptive to do that. That’s the bad news.

The good news is there is forgiveness. God is faithful. He is just.

He can cleanse you from these sins. Confess them and he will.

1-45 Application for Dec 5, 2021 :: Psalm 141:3-4

===

Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips! Do not let my heart incline to any evil…

Psalm 141:3-4

Here’s one of the few verses that indicated that the state of heart is connected and related to what we do with our mouth.

What we say shows who we are.

So it is wise for us to pray that God would protect us from foolish and destructive talk.

So pray!

1-45 Application for Nov 28, 2021 :: Psalm 125:1-2

===

Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people, from this time forth and forevermore.

Psalm 125:1-2

Don’t you find it striking that if you’re saved, God compares you favorably to Mount Zion?

A mountain is stable. A mountain is not shifting sand. A mountain lasts a long time.
And Mount Zion is holy and unique.

You are like that mountain. Find joy and peace in that.

1-44 Application for Nov 21, 2021 :: John 14:2-3

===

In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.

John 14:2-3

A good question to ask, when meditating on a passage, is – what if this wasn’t true.

What if we had no place in heaven? What if Jesus wasn’t preparing a place for us? What it He wasn’t coming back to take us to himself? What if we couldn’t be with Him when we died?

This would be very bad news. There would be reason to dread the future.

But…

For those who are in Christ –
We have a place in heaven.
Jesus is preparing a place for us.
He is coming back to take us to himself.
We will be with Him forever!

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

John 15:5

Would you like to bear much fruit? Would you like good things to happen as a result of what you do? Would you like your life to matter? This verse states that these are good motivations.

It also tells you how to make this a reality. Abide in Jesus. Find his will. Make him the most important part of your life.

He is the life-giving vine. Without him, you can’t do anything. With him you can do much.

1-43 Application for Nov 7, 2021 :: Proverbs 19:11

===

Good sense makes one slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook an offense.

Proverbs 19:11

Here’s one of the few passages where the Bible says glory should go to a human: The human who overlooks an offense.

I repeat: God says to give glory to a person who overlooks an offense.

This should be strong motivation for you to do it.

1-42 Application for Oct 31, 2021 :: Proverbs 3:5-6

===

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Do you want to know what to do? Do you want to know where you should head?

Acknowledge the LORD. Trust him. Your understanding is fallible. It can be wrong. Know that God is never wrong. Say – I believe you know best.

He will make your path straight.

1-42 Application for Oct 22-23, 2016 :: Proverbs 1:10

===

My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent.
Proverbs 1:10

This is the shortest of the fighter verses – 9 words – and it’s clear and helpful

My Son – This advice is being given to you by someone who cares for you and loves you.
if sinners – If you are dealing with someone you know is prone to act wrongly
entice you – If they are encouraging you to do something you know is wrong
do not consent – Say no. Step away. Reject their enticement.

In other words – it’s not always wrong to interact with sinful people, but use great discernment in going along with their plans.

And remember this – you too are a sinner. Don’t be an enticer.
