5-15 Application for Apr 18-19, 2015 :: 1 Timothy 1:15

===

The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.

1 Timothy 1:15

===

We know that all of scripture should be treated as the Word of God and considered true and helpful.

But when scripture tells us that a certain truth is “trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance”, we should open our eyes wider and be very interested to find out what it is.

And as we read this passage, we can easily see why it’s so important – it involves our salvation.

Christ Jesus made a way to save sinners. Yes, that’s very important. Take note. Tell others.

1Timothy

5-14 Application for Apr 11-12, 2015 :: Numbers 23:19

===

God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will not fulfill it?

Numbers 23:19

===

Man is weak. Man is unable. Man is unstable. Man is not trustworthy.
God is strong. God is able. God is stable. God is trustworthy.

When you think about what God is like, don’t think it’s anything near what men are like. That line of thinking will cause you to come to wrong conclusions.

God is not man.

5-13 Application for Apr 4-5, 2015 :: Galatians 6:14

===

But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

Galatians 6:14

===

If you are a Christian – then these things are true:
– There is a meaningful way in which you have been turned off for the world
– And there is a meaningful way in which the world has been turned off for you.

Therefore …
– You should not boast about what you’ve done
– You should boast about what Jesus has done for you (and everyone) on the cross.

Gal 6

5-12 Application for Mar 28-29, 2015 :: Romans 8:35-37

This week’s passage begins at around 1:28

===

For I am sure that neither dealth nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:38-39

===

One thing we humans want is assurance. We want to be able trust. We don’t want to fear being left out in the cold. I think this longing for something we can trust long term is God-given.

God gave us that longing, because he wants us to long for the love that only he can give us.

The love that he gives us in Christ Jesus, our Lord.

Who (or what) can separate from the love of God, or his son Jesus?

Nothing. There are many strong things in our world. They are not as strong as God’s love.

5-11 Application for Mar 22-23, 2015 :: Romans 8:35-37

===

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

Romans 8:35-37

===

That’s a long dark list, isn’t it? So many trials that we see Christians experiencing – so many frightening difficulties. But do any of them have the power to take us away from God’s care?

“No.”

No, we are conquerors. We will conquer these hard things. With the strength of God – the perfect God who created the world and who loves us.

We might be being killed, but we will never die. Our God will see to that.

5-9 Application for Mar 15-16, 2015 :: Romans 8:33-34

This week’s passage begins at around 0:39

===

Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died – more than that, who was raised – who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.

Romans 8:33-34

===

Again we have a rhetorical question with an obvious and glorious answer: No one. Twice. No one will bring any charge against God’s elect? Not when God who has made the justification possible. And no one will condemn. Because Christ Jesus

1. Died
2. Was raised
3. Is at the right hand of God and
4. Is interceding for us.

In deed.

No judge can condemn you. If you are saved, you are in Christ Jesus. Praise God!

5-9 Application for Mar 7-8, 2015 :: Romans 8:31-32

===

What then shall we say to these things?  If God is for us, who can be against us?  He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?

Romans 8:31-32

===

Paul is marveling as he writes this: What then shall we say? How can we begin to speak about the blessing that God has given to us?

He is for us! How do we know? His son died for us. And that’s enough evidence for us to believe that God will give us all manner of lesser good things. He will give us what we need.

Can you remember that this week as you’re memorizing this verse? If you are in Jesus, God is for you! He’s with you. He’s on your side. He’s your champion.

Feel that truth as you walk through what God has placed in your path today.

This week’s passage begins at around 0:38

===

For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.  And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.

Romans 8:29-30

===

Foreknew, Predestined, Called, Justified, Glorified – It’s a ladder to God the Father as a result of the Holy Spirit working in us and salvation provided to us by His Son.

Foreknew, Predestined, Called, Justified, Glorified – And we are considered, at least in some ways, brothers and sisters of Jesus.

Foreknew, Predestined, Called, Justified, Glorified – This is what will become of you if you repent and believe in Jesus and his work on the cross.

Praise God!

5-7 Application for Feb 22-23, 2015 :: Romans 8:28

===

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

Romans 8:28

===

Five minutes ago one of my sons came upstairs and told me that he couldn’t sleep. He’d been ill and had the same thing running over and over again in his mind and he told me he needed something to think about.

I happened to be looking at this passage (preparing this post) and I realized that there couldn’t have been a more helpful thing to think about. My son, who I believe is saved, is called, according to God’s purpose. And because of this verse, we can believe (and trust and put our hope in) the truth that all things that happen to him, including poor sleep due to sickness, will work together for good.

There is hope in that. There is encouragement in that. We’re not suffering for nothing. God is working.

May we all feel that when we are in difficult times.

5-3 Application for Feb 15-16, 2015 :: Psalm 121:7-8

5-3 Psalm 121:1-8 I lift up my eyes to the Hills

===

The LORD will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.

Psalm 121:7-8

(This week’s passage starts at about 1:30 on the video.)
===

All of the salvation spoken about in Psalm 121 is not for today, or this week, or even for the rest of your life. It’s for forever.

If you are the LORD’s, he is in charge of your safety and he will protect you from permanent harm. No matter what you do.
