Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
===
Here’s another verse with a lot of extremities and they are all really good news –
far more abundantly than all we ask or think power at work within us glory throughout all generations forever and ever
This is our God. He does good for us and the result is he gets glory. Forever. This is our God.
Amen.

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.
===
I get the sense that John is pretty excited about what he’s teaching us here. This is a high privilege – not all people can say this. A saved person is a Child of God. So we are. Now.
But, he says, we’re not done. We shall be like him. After we see him, we’ll grow to be more like him. Yes, that’s pretty exciting.

For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
===
Do you want to become the righteousness of God? That would be a good thing, wouldn’t it? Because that’s the only way that you can have communion with the Creator, the Sustainer, the only wise God.
So aren’t you glad that His Son made a way? By taking on our sin, the great ugliness that was keeping us from God. This is grace and mercy. We didn’t deserve it – but we can accept it. We can grab hold of it.
So grab hold of it and encourage others to, also.

But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
===
This statement from Jesus is very counter-intuitive, is it not? “No, no, no”, the typical American thinks, “You become great and first by leading, by making sure that you don’t have to do the trivial, inconsequential, unpleasant work. Why would I want to serve and be a slave?”
But, as the verse points out, Jesus is our example. Jesus served us more than any other human could and he is now First and Very Great.
So, what is your goal. To act according to what the world thinks, or what Jesus says?

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
===
The point of this verse is this: It’s very important that people be taught what Jesus said.
People can’t have saving faith unless they know about Jesus and what he did for us. So we need to listen, we need to understand, and then we need to teach.

Good Words About This CD:
Our children range in age from age 6 – 18. We all enjoy this wonderful cd filled with a nice mix of musical styles, but all the Word of God. It’s an amazing blessing to receive from this CD and those that created it! Thank you! – Kathy
The breadth of musical style remains broad and enjoyable. In other words, the kids have a blast and mom and dad are right there with them! The writers remain faithful to the goal of keeping the word for word ESV translation in the lyrics without compromising musical creativity and integrity… What a wonderful gift to those who seek to store up God’s Word in their hearts – Pastor Gil
… it isn’t just for the kids! Our whole family is learning Scripture together with the help of this great CD! Can’t wait to hear the next one – Steven
My grown daughter and I have wonderful memories of trips we have taken while singing through the Fighter Verse Song CDs. We have enjoyed them all, but this newest one is our favorite yet! … I couldn’t recommend this CD more highly!!! – Debbie
There is nothing greater than hiding God’s Word in our hearts and the hearts of our children. Putting scripture to music is a wonderful way to memorize and keep it memorized. Have you ever thought, “I know there is a verse about that” but struggle to remember it? With scripture to music, the song often pops into our heads when we need them. I am thankful for these songs! – Gina
Excellent variety of style and pacing: from island breezy to Celtic winds, deep rooted soulful to upbeat pickin’ ‘n’ grinnin’, a host of other genres…
Most valuable to the soundscape are the woven words of Christ working in our hearts as we take in the scenery. Sit, eat, drink and be refreshed – Pete
We have really enjoyed this CD. There is a fun variety of styles of worship and artists. Our children listen to this CD during their quiet time and are becoming familiar with God’s Word through song. What a great thing! – Alicia
We barely spend any time actually working on memorizing a verse because by the end of the week, we’ve got the tune and the words already memorized – Christina
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
===
This week I was talking about this verse with my kids and I was struck by all the corporate, plural words that it contained
Race – not just a man
Priesthood – Not just a priest
Nation – not just a citizen
God’s People – not just a person
When we become a child of God, we immediately have many siblings, many partners, many fellow travelers. Once this was not so, but now it is.
And we move from no mercy and darkness into receiving mercy and into marvelous light.
It’s a good news/good news thing.

You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.
===
This is a little scary, isn’t it? There are people who search the scriptures who still refuse to go to the Savior. He is the only way to eternal life and these Scripture Searchers reject him.
May that not be true of you and me. May every piece of evidence that should point us to him draw us to him. I pray that we see Jesus all throughout the old testament and then go to him. That we may have life.

Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous.
===
Here is the Gospel.
There are so many important truths here.
Adam sins affected us all. Jesus’ righteousness gives all a way out.
Adam’s sin made many sinners. Jesus’ righteousness made many righteous.
We were condemned. Now we are given justification and life.
There is very very bad news, and there is very very good news. We should thank God.

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
===
I wonder if Paul had any idea that the letters that he wrote to churches would be read by people around the world thousands of years later. And not just read, but studied, parsed, memorized, used to change lives.
I wondered that today as I thought about this verse, because with this sentence, it seems like he maybe had a little awareness of the impact of his words. It’s perfect.
For one thing, it’s a really good way of guiding a person in how to live their life, isn’t it?
First, as you’re making plans for an activity, you should ask, can I do this to the glory of God? If the answer is no, then (obviously) you shouldn’t do it.
If the answer is yes, then do it in the way that most glorifies God. And if there isn’t a simple answer to that question, then it is a good use of your mind to figure out the complex answer to that question.

The Scripture songs are a wonderful resource. My son likes what he calls “the boy song” (salt and light). My daughter loves “Do not give dogs…”. They both love “No one can serve two masters.” I encourage everyone to give it a listen. The biggest thing is that my children love singing God’s word to the music. May it be forever in their hearts, directing them to Jesus! - Gil McConnell, Pastor for Child and Youth Discipleship
