Ephesians 6:12-13 (Listen to song Demo above)
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.
Sometimes in my daily battle with sin, I can be discouraged. I listen to that lies of the evil one that tell me that it does not matter which choices I make. I wrote last week that the battle we face as Christians is not one that we can fight on our own. In these verses Paul tells us exactly why that is true. The forces that are at work against us are not simply those of flesh and blood, but are “cosmic”, “spiritual”, “heavenly”. This is a big deal. It makes each of our daily wrestlings take on a much wider importance. Our temptations, sin, victories, have a larger, global even cosmic reality. Therefore, take up the whole armor of God. That should be our response. We must look to the means of grace that Paul will outline for us later in chapter 6. Only then can we stand firm.
Practical suggestions:
– Are you gripped today by the global, cosmic and generational importance of the minute by minute battle that you face today?
– Are you aware of who you are battling against?
– Are you employing God’s armor for your defense and battle?
How will you use this fighter verse song in your life this week? with your spouse? your children? your family? your neighbors?
