Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”

The beginning and ending of this passage is largely the same message: Don’t return evil for evil.
The middle section provides a good way to do this, and is very good advice no matter what your situation is: So far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.
It’s important to note that Paul doesn’t say – always live peaceably with all – because he knows that is sometimes something that is impossible to do without both sides acting towards it.
But Paul wants no Christian to be the reason there isn’t peace in any relationship.
Can you see steps that you can move towards peace in the relationship that is now troubling you the most. Then move towards it.
Even if the other side isn’t.
