Application of the Fighter Verse for June 25/26

1 Peter 1:3-5 (Listen to song Demo above)

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

“According to his great mercy”: I am thankful that this is the reason that God has caused us to be born again.  I am thankful that it is not according to any merit of my own. If it were left to that, I certainly would not be on the list, nor would you. Instead, it is according to God’s great mercy. As Paul wrote in Ephesians 2, we were all children of wrath, “but God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us,” made us alive with Christ.
Then Peter goes on to tell us of all the work that we have to do to keep this inheritance that God has given us, right? No. Our inheritance is “imperishable, undefiled and unfading, kept in heaven for” those of us who “by God’s power are being guarded through faith through a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” Of course there is work for us in sanctification, but what a comfort this verse is. God is the main actor in our dramas. God is the initiator of our salvation. God is the one who saved us through Christ because of his great mercy. God is the one who is holding us until our resurrection.

God is the one who deserves all glory, laud and honor.

Practical suggestions:

– Do you doubt your faith because of your constant struggle with sin? Do you struggle with self righteousness, thinking that God chose you because of who you are? This doxology is for both.

– Give God praise for who he is in your salvation story.

Application of the Fighter Verse for June 18/19

1 Timothy 2:5  (Listen to song Demo above)

For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus

There is only one God.  There is only one mediator, the God man Christ Jesus.  One God, three persons as one God.  Jesus is God in the flesh, not just a man.  He one of the three persons of God along with the Father and the Holy Spirit.  This is confusing at first glance and does not seem to make sense.  We know that one man cannot be three persons.   But, God is greater than man and He created man.  His understanding is greater.  As three persons, God reveals himself for our good and His glory.

One God, one mediator, Christ Jesus

Practical suggestions:

– Meditate upon this verse and know there is one God.  (Deuteronomy 6:5)

– Pray to God and ask Him to reveal to you the truth about himself. (Galatians 3:20)

– Consider how Jesus mediates on your behalf to reconcile you to God.

Application of the Fighter Verse for June 11/12

Psalm 86:5-7  (Listen to song Demo above)

For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you. Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer; listen to my plea for grace. In the day of my trouble I call upon you, for you answer me.

God is perfectly good and perfectly loving.  Therefore, He is trustworthy to call upon in trouble and He will answer you.

Call upon the Lord and he will answer you!

Practical suggestions:

– Meditate upon this verse until you feel God’s goodness, kindness and peace.

– Pray to God and ask Him to increase your faith.

– Consider how God has answered your prayers and how God’s love abounds to you today.

Application of the Fighter Verse for June 4/5

Isaiah 40:30-31 (Listen to song Demo above)

Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.

Chapter 40 of Isaiah opens with this instruction. The chapter focuses on the greatest comfort known. Namely, that comfort comes not from anything within us, but from a God who is great and through His word that is forever.
Isaiah was preaching to an exiled people that felt that their way had been hidden from the Lord and their rights disregarded from their God (40:27.) When we walk through valleys of suffering we may resonate with the Israelites. We may feel as if God has forgotten us or that he no longer cares for us.  Isaiah’s response to his congregation is firm and caring. (See last week on Isaiah 40:28-29)

Notice again that his response is not man focused, it is God focused. He establishes who God is first and points to his faithfulness.

The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
his understanding is unsearchable.

The he turns to us and our frailty. He promises that this God who is the all powerful, everlasting, creator is also for us. He promises power for the faint. For those who are in covenant relationship with God, those who wait on him, he promises all that we need. When we faint, he will renew our strength.

If you are not in suffering and trial now, it will come. Peter tells us to not be surprised by every fiery trial as though something strange were happening (1 Peter 4:12.) Paul admonishes us often to endure suffering, assuming that we will be faced by it (Rom. 5:3, 2 Tim. 2:3, 2 Tim. 4:5.) Isaiah gives us the promises here that will carry us through these times. “Some trust in chariots and some in horses [and some in ourselves], but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.” (Psalm 20:7)

Those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength!

Practical suggestions:

  • What does mounting on wings like eagles, running and not being weary and walking and not fainting look like this side of heaven?
  • When have you experienced God’s promised strength in this way? Thank him for his faithfulness to you in these times.
  • When have you not waited on the Lord in your suffering? Confess this and ask him to give you the strength to do even this.

Application of the Fighter Verse for May 28/29

Isaiah 40:28-29 (Listen to song Demo above)

Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. 29He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.

God is the everlasting God.  That is BIG news!  Bigger than Osama Bin Laden.  Bigger than tornadoes.  Bigger than everything else.  We grow weary.  We are limited in our strength and capacity.   God does not wear down, but rather gives power to those who are weary.

In your weakness, seek the Lord’s strength!

Practical suggestions:

– Meditate upon this verse.  Know the God of the universe and seek Him.

– Pray to God and ask Him to help you in your weakness.

– Consider your weakness in light of a tornado.  Is not God greater than tornadoes and natural disasters?  He is!  How great then is our need for Him!

A Note on Song Demos and Studios

Dear Friends, the two studios we are using in the Twin Cities have been out of commission the past few weeks. As a result, we are scrambling to get songs done.  These are the challenges of an all volunteer project.

Much of what we post week by week are work in progress versions and even the original concepts at times.  Thank you for understanding that these are not the completed and polished songs.  Our desire is to get them to you so that you can keep up on the current week’s verse.

Please pray for us as we seek funding for some mobile recording studios, and as we try to complete the 40 songs in Set 1.  Thank you for your support for getting God’s word into the hearts of His people everywhere!

Application of the Fighter Verse for May 21/22

Ephesians 4:26  (Listen to song Demo above)

Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger.

When you are angry do not sin.  When we are angry, it is most often an unrighteous anger.  When we feel anger, our hearts move out of a loving disposition and our “emotional temperature” rises.  God desires that we turn from anger to him.    Before your day is over, or sooner, approach the one with whom you are angry and be reconciled.  Unresolved anger destroys relationships.  Be reconciled to God and others.

Do not let a day go by angry with God or someone else.

Practical suggestions:

– Meditate upon this verse.  Resolve to address your anger quickly.

– Pray to God and ask for His help to recognize when you get angry.  Seek Him and His peace before you speak harshly or let bitterness grow in your heart.

– Consider what happens when you let anger linger.  Bitterness?  Resentment? What happens to your relationships?

Application of the Fighter Verse for May 14/15

Colossians 3:1-3 (Listen to song Demo above)

If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

Set your mind on the things of God and seek those things.  Do this because you have died and have been raised with Christ.

If you believe in Jesus, you have died with Christ and are raised to life!

Practical suggestions:

– Meditate upon this verse.  How are you seeking things that are above?

– Pray to God and confess ask for help to set your mind on God’s priorities.

– Consider that when you believe in Christ, you have died and your life is His.  Live then for Christ.
